Arranged in chronological order. Stephen M. Ingersoll (1793-1837), physician, served in the War of 1812 with the 37th U.S. Infantry and after the war stationed at Fort Hawkins which in 1823 was established as Macon, Georgia. The collection consists of letters from Dr. Stephen M. IngersoH to Dr. Asahel Hall of North Ford (Conn.) from 1820-1825. Written from Fort Hawkins and later Macon (Ga.), the letters discuss medical matters, farming, the climate, and problems with settling Georgia. Cite as: Stephen M. G., 1839-1910 Letters, 1861-1865 93 items Arranged in chronological order Thomas W. G. Inglet (1839-1910) born in Richmond County, Georgia, enlisted on September 10, 1861 in Company C, Georgia Infantry, 28*** Regiment. The collection consists of letters written by Inglet to his wife Martha (Mattie) in Berzelia, Georgia (Columbia County) during his service as a Confederate soldier from 1861-1865. His letters give details of the war as his company moves to Manassas (VA), Fredericksburg (VA), Richmond (VA), Yorktown (VA), Petersburg (VA), Wilmington (NC), James Island (SC), Baldwin (PL), and Charleston (SC). He names fellow soldiers who are killed or wounded and discusses the harsh conditions of camp life. Also given are details of battles at Williamsburg, Fredericksburg, Petersburg, and Yorktown. He was wounded in the hand 6/27/62 at Cold Harbor (VA) and in the foot 10/7/64 at Darbytown Road (VA). The final letters in the collection are written from hospitals in Virginia (Jackson Hospital in Richmond) and Georgia (Blackie Hospital in Augusta). This was a meeting of financial and diplomatic experts seeking to organize a multi- billioned International Monetary Fund and International Bank for Reconstruction and Development ( or World Bank, as it is now called ). This meeting in Savannah was the first meeting since the Bank was officially organized on paper, December 27, 1945. He was also a collector of books and prints. In his later years, Ireland's reputation was ruined by his involvement in the forgery of Shakespeare manuscripts produced by his son, William Henry Ireland (1771-1835). The collection consists of an etching done by Samuel Ireland titled "General James Oglethorpe." James Edward Oglethorpe, 1696-1785, was an English General, philanthropist, and founder of the colony of Georgia in America.
